Volunteers are the heart of the Peel Compton Foundation and our volunteers log hundreds of hours each year in support of our mission. Our volunteers work in almost every area of our organization: in our Museum as docents, at our events as a special event assistant or in our Gardens as a Master Gardener or someone who just loves getting their hands a little dirty! We also have volunteer opportunities at our newest location, the Coler Preserve, to help restore and build trails.
With several properties and being open year-round, we rely on volunteers, whether you can help us for just one hour a month or several hours a day, we need and want you.
Our Volunteer Positions:
Imagine spending the afternoon in a beautiful 1875 Italianate-style mansion greeting guests and giving house tours for the Peel Mansion Museum. We are looking for people with a spark, who enjoy talking with others about history and early Bentonville life. Several of our volunteers have period appropriate costumes and enjoy dressing for the day, as if it were 1875!
Master Gardeners or Gardeners:
Every Tuesday and Thursday we have many “green-thumbs” that come and help us with our greenhouses. If you enjoy planting and all things “green”, please join us and become a part of our gardens. In 2020, our Heritage Gardens at the Peel Mansion are undergoing a renewal. We are looking for volunteers to “own” one of our many different gardens, whether our Rose Garden or Vegetable Garden, we need weekly volunteers to help weed, feed and sow new plantings. Also, we want to teach school children and adults alike about the benefits of gardening, we welcome you and your garden club to help make our gardens the most enjoyable gardens in Northwest Arkansas.
Special Event Assistants:
We have many events throughout the year and need people for the “day of” in many areas such as selling plants at our annual Native Tree and Plant Sale at the Compton Gardens or at Christmas at the Mansion assisting our guests at this annual Holiday event. We welcome small groups to help clean up after our fund-raising events as well.
Mountain Bike Trail Helpers:
What makes the mountain biking community so special is their desire to give back! As we open the Coler Preserve, we will have needs, especially after a heavy rain storm or high winds, to clear the trails of debris. With over 19 miles of trails, it takes many, many hands and backs to help get the Coler trails restored to their mint condition. If you enjoy being outdoors with a like-minded community, we will have “Coler Clean-Up” opportunities for you.
Every December we celebrate with our volunteers at our annual Holiday lunch. We recognize the many hours they have contributed as well as award prizes for outstanding efforts in each area of service.
